A Little Bit of Bragging

Last week Isaac's teacher was testing the kids on their reading abilities and comprehension. 92% and above is passing. Isaac got 100% on level 8, which is grade 2. So he fully reads and understands everything read at a second grade reading level. WoW! And this is coming from a child that has a speech delay. Amazing. Its crazy how far he has come from the begining of the year.
First Math and now Reading...Im one proud momma.

Isaac's Surgery

45 minutes, plus a couple hours of recovery. Its finally done and over with. Goodbye tonsils and adenoids and welcome better breathing and no throat issues. He is going to feel like a new boy. No more constant nose congestion and no more constant throat pain (like strep). The poor boys adenoids were so large that it blocked 3/4ths of his nasal passages and stuff. And his tonsils were big and ugly (touching like usual), same old same old.

The dr had been using something new, instead of doing it the usual electrical way. He is using a new knife the reduces the pain level, more better than the other. He was his 8th patient and so far so good.

His recovery was okay. A little nausea/vomiting, but was good to go afterwards. He has been sleepy with water and popsicles today. Foods start tomorrow and he cant wait. He sooooo wanted mashed potatoes and Rice Krispies. Pain level is good. Just a itty bitty bit he says (uses his fingers to show).

His is sleeping SOUNDLY (no snoring, yay) for the first time in years. The humidifier we got too is helping as well.

Meds...he is our lil druggie. A HUGE bottle, with a large bottle on the side (since they didn't have a big enough bottle for it all), of Tylenol w/Codeine and also Amox.

School...the earliest to go back is Monday. But NO Phy Ed or Recess for at least 2 weeks. One bummed out boy.

Eichhorst Cousin #6

It all started back in 2004 (technically in 2003). First there was Isaac (Feb 2004). Then Ella, 10 months later (Dec 2004). Carson came a year after (Jan 2006). Then a couple years break til there was Kianna (May 2008). Then Owen, 5 months later (Oct 2008). And now after another 2 years break....soon-to-be #6!!! CONGRATULATIONS Brain and Jessica on expecting their #3 mid-October.
I keep on telling everyone, "3 the the new 2"...just go for it and you won't be disappointed ;) One for each arm, and one for the middle, to close, for a big huge family hug.

Eartubes are in

Kianna was well enough for eartubes!!! Finally after 6 attempts, they are in (and she is fine, no effects, her same self as she came in). He said that he found plenty of liquid crap in her ears but no infection has set it yet. It wouldn't have surprised me one bit if there had been one. She was good until they layed her down, which they said they had her quickly breathe in then (used gas). Since it was a busy day there at the surgery center (lots of colonoscopies if you wanted to know), Kianna brightened up their day. She was such a good girl, greeting everyone and blowing kisses and waving. That is what she does best!
How I was...I was fine. No worries. Fast and quick (10 min max) and I know many peoples kids who have had this done. Simple common procedure. But with Isaac's coming up, that is a different story since its not fast and easy that has a quick recovery. Ill be a worry wart (high anxiety).

2 weeks until Isaac's turn (tonsils and adenoids). And he can't wait. He's excited to eat soft foods (ice cream, mashed potatoes) and to take a long nap with no pain while they take the 2 things out and have yummy medicine afterwards. Only if he knew...

One down, One to go.

Isaac's Surgery Date is Set

Isaac will be having his tonsils AND adenoids out in April. Infact, the set date is Brandon's birthday, April 14th. And what we learned is that his eardrums are flaring or positioned at an angle (bowing). The ENT said that it could be the cause of his enlarged adenoids. When englarged, they can push on the Eustachian Tube. This can be also linked to his speech, since sounds are muffed when the drums are pushing against the ET. We are not hoping its a hearing problem and his adenoids are the cause.

We will try again for Kianna's eartubes on Wednesday, March 31st. This will be try #6.

Lets PLEASE have everyone be heathly. Thats all we want.

Carson's Shriners Checkup

It looks like Carson is getting a new arm. A high tech mechanical one coming from Germany. They were looking for a 3-5 year old and Carson came at the right time. Since its new to everyone (a first so to speak), they will call once they know/learn more. They are all ecstatic about this. How freakin' exciting is that...EEEEEEE!!!! Such a wonderful opportunity for Carson, he so deserves it.

How itll work...
His muscles will control everything....bend/move his whole arm so that he doesn't have to manually do it like he does now. He will control his hand, wrist, and fingers (that are each bendable) as well.

Tonsils and more

Since Isaac has been battling tonsil trouble off and on all for years, its finally coming to an end. Isaac has an appt with an ENT next week to discuss tonsillectomy (may include the removal of his adeniods too). From colds, large inflamed tonsils (still large when healthy) to sleeping troubles (coughing, breathing, and snoring) and choking on foods. Tonsilitis and Strep too.

This also maybe part of his food pickyness and speech. Kids with very large tonsils can't breathe well through their nose and that affects their sense of taste. After surgery, they can eat more easily and smell and taste food better. This goes along with speech too.

And poor Kianna has yet to have her ear tubes in. She's been sick once again with an upper resirpatory virus and a double ear infection. Weve been trying since Feb 5th, with 5 cancelations inbetween now and then.

Do you think they can do a 2 for 1 deal....
